Patriot Day
A decade and a half ago the towers fell Putting many a family in hell. Dust, rubble and dedication All that remained after the devastation. Firemen, police and volunteers Continued to search though blinded by tears. A nation united The flame of Patriotism reignited. Donations and support beyond compare. Our flag could be seen almost everywhere. Today, “Ground Zero” has reconstructed, Hard to tell that there was massive destruction. The memorial has been finished, But, the multitude of flags has slowly diminished. “We will never forget”, A motto we remember yet. September 11th a day to remember, But to many it’s just a day in September. Although many a family were affected, There are other heroes who might feel dejected. Remember not all heroes wear uniforms. But all men can be heroes when asked to perform. All our countries heroes have fought To maintain the freedoms out forefathers sought. So this September eleven, Let us remember the heroes in heaven. Let us remember all that has been given. Let us remember that, not all can be forgiven. So, this September Once more, let us remember. Hoist your flag and let it waive. Let us honor, those ones so brave. Ellen Hampton Aux 12128

VFW Action AlertBackground: For the past two years, politicians, VA, and stakeholders have deliberated on ways to reform the VA health care system. The VFW believes that veterans must have a voice in determining when and where they receive their health care. To ensure veterans’ views and preferences are heard, the VFW has conducted several surveys to gauge our members’ experiences with the VA health care system. The VFW has used data collected from these surveys to advocate for veteran-centric reforms that are based on veterans’ needs, preferences and expectations when receiving health care.
Action Needed: Help the VFW hold VA and Congress accountable for fulfilling their mission to veterans by taking a short survey regarding your preferences when receiving health care. To take the survey, click here: https://www.research.net/r/StateofVAHealthCare2016. Please keep the Yaw family in your prayers. Irma has set up a gofundme page if anyone can help contribute. Membership Amanda Dorris We planned our Member appreciation event for Aug 13th 2016. We were able to host an evening cocktail party at President Carol McElwain’s house. There was all sorts of food, from Hot Artichoke dip to a chocolate fountain with all sorts of treats. Since many of members’ husbands are in our VFW Post, they were invited as well. As an additional gift of appreciation, all members received a gift bag that included a paper Flag Fan, a VFWA Decal from the VFW store, bookmarks , a Declaration Tie Pin, Superman expandable washcloth, dangling earrings and various snacks. We tied these into a game that we equated with the VFWA programs. Can you guess which each match up too? Flag Fan = Americanism VFWA Decal = Membership Bookmarks = Youth Declaration tie/hat pin = Legislative Superman Wash cloth = Veterans and Family Snacks = Hospital (because of our CBOC project!) and the dangling earrings = Scholarship as they appear like tassels. Everyone had tons of fun and I feel assured that our members as well as the VFW comrades felt appreciated and honored. |
